It’s competition time! The Reading Room Radio Show has 2 sets of Bernard MacLaverty signed books you can win in a competition it’s running to promote the well-known author visit to Skye at the end of March. The Reading Room Radio Show is a new programme on CuillinFM, produced and presented by Charlotte Johnson who is the chair of the Skye Reading Room, the community group which promotes literary activities in Skye & Lochalsh.
The show features interviews with many of the writers and poets who read their work at the Reading Room monthly event at the Skeabost Hotel. There are also book reviews, information on workshops, courses, literary events and festivals, as well as news about writing competitions and this is the first competition with prizes the show is running.
Charlotte commented “ We’re hoping this will be the first of many competitions the Reading Room Radio Show will be hosting. Vintage Publishers have been very generous in giving us 2 sets of Bernard MacLaverty books which he’s going to sign – these are great prizes as he is one of the most acclaimed authors in the UK. His short stories have been compared to those of Raymond Carver and John Cheever, reckoned by many to be the greatest short story writers of modern times, and, of course, his novels Cal and Lamb have been made into feature films for which he wrote the screenplays. He’s written for radio, television and screen. We’re really very fortunate to have a Booker Prize nominated author visiting us to read and talk about his work. We hope the competition will encourage all literature lovers to come to the Skeabost Hotel on the evening of 30 March to give Bernard MacLaverty a warm Skye welcome.”
To enter the competition, answer the following question:
“What is the name of the Bernard MacLaverty novel that was awarded the 1997 Saltire Society Scottish Book of the Year Award?”
The 2 prizes are:
1 set of Bernard MacLaverty novels and 1 set of Bernard MacLaverty Short Story collections. The books are signed by the author and he will be drawing the competition winners at the Reading Room monthly event, 7.00p.m. 30th March at the Skeabost Hotel, Skeabost. The winners will be notified after this date.
