The Reading Room celebrates Book Week Scotland with a visit from author Sara Maitland

The week of 26 November is the first Book Week Scotland and events will be taking place all  over the country. The Reading Room is delighted to announce that Sara Maitland will be the guest reader at our monthly event on Thursday 29 November.

Sara reads from her new book: Gossip From The Forest – The Hidden Roots Of Our Fairytales (Granta). She is a novelist and short story writer. Born in 1950, she grew up in Galloway and studied at Oxford University. Her first novel, Daughters of Jerusalem, was published in 1978 and won the Somerset Maugham Award. This has been followed by several more novels including Three Times Table (1990), Home Truths (1993) and Brittle Joys (1999), and one co-written with Michelene Wandor – Arky Types (1987). Her short story Far North has been made into a film starring Michelle Yeoh & Sean Bean.
