We’ve been having a grand time celebrating Book Week Scotland here at the Skye Reading Room.
A very enjoyable and informative workshop with Sara Maitland in the afternoon and a fantastic turnout for the evening event. Thanks to Iain Oughtred, Drew Love-Jones and Pauline Prior-Pitt for reading on the open-mic part of the programme and a big thank you to Sara Maitland for transporting us through magical forests and woods and reminding us that fairy stories are for everyone.
There is a Book Week Special on CuillinFM featuring a Top 10 of favourite scottish authors and a feature on favourite books. We hasten to say this is not a definitive list, just the views of all of the people who were kind enough to let us have their selections – so Thank You to members of Portree Library, pupils and staff of Portree High School, members of the Reading Room, members of the CuillinFM presenters team, members of the Association for Scottish Literary Studies and listeners of the Reading Room Radio Show. Everyone who responded was entered into a prize draw for a copy of New Writing Scotland 30 and we’re delighted to announce the winner is Anne Grundy, a member of Portree Library. (Thanks to Duncan Jones of ASLS for the prize) We couldn’t have Book Week Scotland without the work of our writers to enjoy so there is also a review of New Writing Scotland 30: A Little Touch of Cliff in the Evening edited by Carl Macdougall & Zoe Strachan. There’s also a review of Sara Maitland’s Gossip From the Forest, published by Granta. All details of the features on the show will be posted on the website in the next few days. If you missed the broadcast on Thursday afternoon between 15.00-16.00, the show is repeated on Saturday morning 5-6 A.M and on Sunday morning at 8.00A.M and you can listen to it again next Thursday afternoon 6 December.
