Merry Christmas from the Reading Room – a evening of Christmas readings and music

We had a wonderful evening at the Christmas Reading Room last night – readings from Gill Terry, Richard Neath, Iain Oughtred, Morag Henriksen & Charlotte Johnson. An electic mix of Christmas poems from U A Fanthorpe, John O’Donohue, Patrick Kavanagh; Richard’s Christmas blog;  Bernard MacLaverty’s short story Christmas Junket; a moving series of original poems and songs from Morag on Peace on Earth which focussed on the Israeli Palestine conflict, as well as a short story from her childhood memories of Christmas in Germany.

We had tasty food (thank you to Cafe Arriba for looking after us so well), good music from Catriona, Jo and Charlie (students from Plockton – thank you Dougie Pincock http://www.musicplockton.org/) and a raffle (thank you to all the local and national businesses for their donations, particularly Birlinn Publishers)  – early Christmas presents for many of us.

And, as if all of that wasn’t enough, we had Claire Macdonald reading from Lifting the Lid and talking about life at Kinloch Lodge – as one person has said today (Wed 19th), she was superb.

We laughed, sang, listened and went away feeling nourished and replete after a wonderful evening of Christmas celebrations.
Thank you to everyone who made the evening possible.
