World Book Night Celebration with Don Paterson

We’re delighted to be welcoming the well-known poet and writer, Don Paterson, to the Reading Room on Thursday 24 April. He is one of the best-known poets of our time winning many awards and accolades for his work, including 2 T S Eliot prizes, the Whitbread Poetry prize, the 2009 Forward Prize and the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry. Don’s visit has been jointly funded by the Reading Room and the Scottish Book Trust’s Live Literature Fund.

Don will be leading a poetry workshop between 3.30 and 5.00 – this is a great opportunity to work with him on your own poems. There are limited numbers on the workshop, so please contact us to book your place – the fee is £5.

The evening event starts at 7.00 and we will be celebrating World Book Night (Wed 23 April)  with selected readings from favourite books/authors in the first half and then Don Paterson will be talking about his work and reading in the second half of the programme. We will have a selection of Don’s books for sale and he will be pleased to sign copies.

The evening event costs £4 for non-members (adults).

We will be hosting the AGM in the interval, so please ensure your membership fees are paid in advance.

You can contact us to book a place on the workshop by emailing:

As usual, refreshments and bar meals are available at the hotel.
