Thrills to come this year

Tuesday 17th December 2013 – Launch of Love and Music will Endure.
Liz Macrae Shaw launches her debut novel at our December event. We’ll also be hosting a Christmas themed open-mic session with a wee rafle to round off the night – a very merry affair is anticipated!

The year so far

Tuesday 29th January 2013 – Evening Event with Sara Sheridan and Baker Prize 2012 results
Sara will be talking and reading at the Reading Room’s evening event when she will also be announcing the winners of the 2012 Baker Prize.

Tuesday 29th January 2013 – PR for Writers – Afternoon Seminar with Sara Sheridan
– covers what you need to know about PR for both your work and yourself, online and off. This seminar is aimed at fledgling writers as well as more experienced practitioners, and is full of hints and tips to help promote your career.

Tuesday 29th January 2013 – Narrative Drive – Afternoon Seminar with Sara Sheridan
– provides key hints and tips on how to keep your readers truning the pages. Sara will be giving an industry insider’s view of narrative drive and why it’s so important to publication.

Tuesday 26th February 2013 – Baker Prize 2012 Winners Night
The Baker Prize Awards Event will be held at the Skeabost Hotel on Tuesday 26 February when we celebrate the winners and runner-ups achievements at the prize-giving ceremony. We hope that our prize-winners will be with us to read their winning entries.

Tuesday 23rd April 2013 – World Book Night with Pauline Prior Pitt
North Uist based poet, Pauline Prior Pitt, is back by popular demand to read at the Reading Room on Tuesday 23 April at the Skeabost Hotel.
Pauline will be reading from her new collection Elsewhere. As in her earlier books you will find that quirky mixture of humour and poignancy that we have come to expect from her poetry. The evening will also celebrate World Book Night by featuring readings from this year’s selection of World Book Night books.

Tuesday 25th June – Catriona Lexy Campbell and Cynthia Rogerson
An afternoon workshop with Cynthia Rogerson renowned author and programme director at Moniack Mhor Writers’ Centre. Cynthia is guest speaker in the evening and is joined by Catriona Lexy Campbell writer, poet, actor and current writer in residence at Sabhal Mor Ostaig.

Tuesday 30th July 2013 marked the return of Andy Jackson – poet extraordinaire and Baker Prize winner.
Andy will be running a short workshop on the afternoon of 30th July between 3.30pm and 5.00pm – the theme is storytelling in poetry and flash fiction. £5 to members and £10 to non-members. Please let us know beforehand if you’d like to attend the workshop.
This will be followed by the July evening event starting at 7pm – an open-mic session followed by Andy Jackson reading for us. Get in touch if you’d like to read a piece of your own work.

Tuesday 27th August 2013 Poet on a Bike Charity Events
This month the Reading Room/Seòmar Leughaidh proudly presents a charity event featuring ‘poet on a bike’ Chris Powici in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Chris will be reading for us on Tuesday 27th August at Skeabost and is inviting anyone who wishes, to bring along a favourite poem to share with us. He will also be conducting a poetry workshop between 3:30 and 5:00. The entry fee for each event is a minimum of £5 with every penny (and any more you can afford) going to this wonderful cause.

Tuesday 29th October 2013 – this year’s Halloween Event

Tuesday 26th November 2013 – Launch of The Skye Reading Room Anthology 2013.
