We try to have an event of some sort each month, a local writer or a visiting bard or some poor literary character en route to the Outer Isles who’s been waylaid by one of our group and persuaded to join us for an hour or two and share their thoughts or experiences with us. We host book launches, celebrate Book Week Scotland, participate in World Book Night, dress up for Halloween, share favourite stories and some of us even sing.
Our aim is to encourage writing and reading equally and we like to think our Open-Mic sessions have given several of our number the encouragement and support they need to share their own work with an audience for the first time.
Our first event in 2014 took place on February 4th at Skeabost Hotel when we had a great evening with Donald S Murray.
February 25th saw a delightful evening with Mandy Haggith. The winners of the Baker Prize 2013 were revealed and the date set for the prize award night…
The next event is Wednesday March 26th with the winners of the Baker Prize 2013 arriving to collect their awards and read the winning entries. A good night in store with music from the students of the Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd/National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music, Plockton… As usual there will be a few of us around from 5.30-6.p.m. so if you’d like a chance to meet and chat with the winners, come along early.
